Open shop is one of the most exciting programs that we are able to offer at Sibley bicycle depot. In an industry dominated by retail operations Sibley’s open shop is unique in that we welcome all and it is a free service. If you have a problem we look forward to helping you fix it. For many Open shop is essential in that it provides an opportunity to fix ones own bicycles and to learn new skills.

As an organization dedicated to bicyclists, both new and experienced, Open shop provides a mechanism to enable people to get on their bicycles and choose them as an alternative to other forms of transportation. Also for those for whom transportation is a larger portion of their expenses open shop provides an opportunity to fix up ones bicycle to have cheaper and greater mobility and a greater choice of transportation. With the help of our earn-a-bike program these two programs help people get on bicycles, which we think is essential to the planet and individuals health.

The Sibley Bike Depot has Free Open Shop hours every week, even during the winter! This means that anyone can come in during our open hours, work on their bike, use our tools, and talk to mechanics free of charge. Many volunteers also recycle parts and bicycles in our shop in order to stock a number of inexpensive used parts for you if anything needs to be replaced.
