Summer at Sibley!
***Last Chance to Support Sibley's Spring Fundraising Campaign
Thanks to everybody who has donated to support Sibley Bike Depot this summer. We have raised $3,400 towards our Spring Fundraising Campaign goal of $5,000. Help us to build a sustainable, strong organization with active programs and coordinated community engagement. We need your help to keep doing important work promoting bicycles as a sustainable form of transportation! Sibley Bike Depot is a 501 (c)3 non-profit organization, so contributions are tax deductible to the extent allowed by applicable federal law. Donate online at http://www.sibleybikedepot.org/donate
***Bike Library Open!
Sibley's newest program, the Community Partners Bike Library, is officially open! After over a year of planning and developing the program, Sibley Bike Depot began lending out bikes at the end of May. The program provides low-income and under-served community members the opportunity to check out a bike, fully equipped with transportation accessories (including light, lock, helmet, rack, fenders, and bike map) for 6 months. Sibley has now lent out 45 bicycles through 5 fabulous community partner organizations, with plans in place to lend out 50 more in the next couple weeks!
***Eat For Equity Saturday, June 26 7pm!
Sibley Bike Depot is partnering with Eat For Equity to do an exciting fundraising event this Saturday, June 26. Come eat fresh, locally grown, home-cooked foods and beverages, and contribute some money; all proceeds from this month's dinner go to supporting Sibley Bike Depot! The dinner will be held at 2601 22nd Avenue South in Minneapolis. Bike with us there! Bike rides will gather at 6:30pm from three locations: Lake Street bridge (Mpls side - in front of the Longfellow Grill); Stone Arch bridge (in NE); and Midtown Greenway at James Ave in Uptown.
***Volunteer With Us
More than ever, Sibley Bike Depot needs your support to make our core programs strong. Help us by staffing a weekly shift in the shop! In particular, Sibley Bike Depot needs help staffing on Saturdays, our busiest day. We need help to fill the Greeter role - help make sure each person that comes into the shop is greeted, oriented, and supported in finding what they need. We also need help on the Sales Floor - help people find our sale-ready bikes, adjust seats for test rides, and ring out customers' purchases. Email Jason@sibleybikedepot.org with interest in helping out!
***Sibley's New Interns
This summer we're excited to have a couple new groups involved at the shop. The Summer of Solutions program for college students is a dedicated group of 15 people who will be helping Sibley develop new programming and tackle some ongoing projects. Also, youth from the Redeemer Lutheran Church in North Minneapolis have come on board as interns at Sibley to learn about bicycle mechanics and running a community bike shop, while helping out with the Bike Library. They are starting their own bike shop in North Minneapolis called People on Bikes.
