This Week at Sibley Bike Depot

***Help Sibley send bikes to New Oreans!

Sibley Bike Depot received a request for bikes from Rusted Up Beyond All Recognition Bikes (RUBARB) in New Orleans.  RUBARB, a collectively run bike shop, was formed in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina's destruction, as volunteers salvaged bikes to fix up and distribute within the community.  Sibley donated 50 bikes to RUBARB in 2008 and has seen many volunteers and staff travel to New Orleans and visit their shop.

You can help us get 50-150 bikes to RUBARB!  Help us find a cheap or free 16-24' rental truck for use for 3-5 days in February; or, donate the money for us to rent a truck!  We estimate the cost of rental plus gas to be $1200-1500.  Help us get 100 bikes to a great community bike program in New Orleans!  Email Jason@sibleybikedepot.org with ideas or donate here to help make it happen!

***Give Input on Community Partners Bike Library

Sibley Bike Depot is excited to begin implementing the Community Partners Bike Library for grand opening this spring.  Help us find some awesome organizations to partner with!  View the Partner Organization Criteria here, and send us names of any great organization you know of why might be interested!  Email Jason@sibleybikedepot.org with ideas or suggestions for organizations to partner with.

***Volunteer Input Meeting February 8, 6-7:30pm

We want your
input as we revisit our programs to make our organization more effective!  Come to Sibley's Volunteer Night February 8 from 6:00-7:30 and engage in a discussion with Sibley Board and staff about how to
make Sibley's programs more effective this year.  Give your input into how we can better work with volunteers, design our programs, and connect with your community.  Food will be provided (vegetarian, vegan, and meat options available).

***Upcoming Classes

Sibley Bike Depot's Trailer Building class has been a success!  Everyone is having fun and coming up with creative and individual trailers.  Sibley is extending the class for four more weeks, on Thursday evenings (6:30-9pm) into the middle of March.  There is room for a couple more participants!  Check the EXCO website here http://excotc.org/node/816 for availability.

Space is also available in Sibley's February Basic Bike Maintenance class; the class goes from February 21-March 14, Sunday afternoons 5:00-7:30pm.  Sign up at www.excotc.org.  February's Complete Overhaul class has been canceled due to low registration; sign up for March's session, March 18-April 8, 6:30-9pm.

***Help Teach a Bike Repair Class

Sibley Bike Depot needs people this coming year to help out in teaching roles.  You don't need to be an expert mechanic - just willing to learn and teach.  We need support for both our youth classes as well as our adult classes.  Email Kevin@sibleybikedepot.org with interest in teaching.

***Volunteer at Twin Cities Bike Swap Feb. 14

Sibley will be staffing a table at the Twin Cities Bike Swap on Sunday, February 14 from 9:30am-2:30pm.  The event will help publicize Sibley programs, bring in new volunteers, seek donations of used bikes, and maybe sell some bikes and parts.  Volunteer for a 3 hour shift and get free admission to the event!  Email Jason@sibleybikedepot.org to sign up.  The event is at the Schwan Event Center on National Sports Center Campus, in Blaine; Sibley will work to arrange car rides to the event (let us know if you're driving and have a space in your car!)
