Resolve to get Involved with Sibley Bike Depot in 2010!

***Support Sibley Bike Depot in 2010!

We at Sibley Bike Depot are incredibly excited to begin a new year with the energy and enthusiasm of all our great volunteers and supporters.  The bike movement in the Twin Cities is growing, and Sibley Bike Depot plays an important role as a grassroots organization providing youth programs, free open shop, bike repair classes, and more to our community.  Here are some ways you can become involved with our shop!  Email volunteer coordinator Jason Jason@sibleybikedepot.org with interest.

-Help staff a shift in the shop!  We are especially looking for volunteers to commit to staffing one 2hr shift each week.  When you volunteer, we'll sign you up for a specific "role" such as Greeter, Shop Assistant, Youth Assistant, Sales Floor/Cashier, or Recycling/Parts Sorting.

-Join a Team!  Sibley uses a "Team" structure to bring volunteers into positions of leadership in critical areas such as Grant-writing/Fundraising, Financial Management, or Community Outreach.  We need your unique skills to either join an existing Team, of help jump-start a new Team.

-Teach a class!  Sibley needs volunteers to help teach classes for adults (Basic Bike Maintenance, Complete Overhaul, and more) and for Youth; helping to teach classes is a great way to expand and solidify your own mechanical skills!

-Provide professional consultation!  We are especially looking for folks with professional experience in critical areas such as legal advice, financial management, grant-writing, marketing/business development, and much more.  Whatever your expertise - we need it!

-Donate a bicycle!  Sibley always needs bicycles, especially high quality bikes.  Organize a bike drive at your work, school, church, or community center!  Sibley has a $10 suggested cash donation to accompany a bicycle; this optional donation helps Sibley cover the costs of parts and labor to make the bike run again

***Upcoming Classes at Sibley Bike Depot

Avoid the crowds and sign up for a winter session of Sibley's Basic Bike Maintenance class!  January's session begins Jan 17 and lasts until February 7 - four consecutive Sunday afternoons, 3-5:30pm.  February's session goes February 21 - March 14, four consecutive Sunday afternoons 5:00-7:30.  Sibley is also offering a Complete Overhaul (intermediate mechanics) class Feb. 11-March 4, four consecutive Thursday evenings, 6:30-9:00pm.  Sign up for all classes through the Twin Cities Experimental College at www.excotc.org; email Jason@sibleybikedepot.org with any questions!

***Winter Women's and Trans Night at Sibley Bike Depot!

Sibley's Women's and Trans Night offers a safe and welcoming space for women and trans folks in a dude dominated bike world.  Come learn, teach, or just hang out with other rad biker people.  Come Thursday, January 7 at 6pm for a Winter Commuting workshop followed by 7pm Open Shop.  Women's and Trans Night will continue on Thursday, Jan. 21 with a 6pm class (TBA) and 7pm Open Shop.

***Junior Mechanics through St. Paul Connections

Sibley begins a new session of our Junior Mechanics class through St. Paul Connections.  20-25 youth will get to learn bike repair and build up a bike to take home!  Sibley needs volunteer teachers to help out with this Sunday afternoon (1-4:30pm) class in February.  Know any high school youth?  Tell them to sign up!

Thanks - and see you around the shop!
